Tournament Death
Match / Team Death Match
In this mode of play the goal is to get the most kills,
or frags. When you frag someone you get one point. If you
die from something other than another player fragging you
you lose a point. eg-if you fall into a pit of lava or
blow yourself up. Unreal Tournament ships with over
twenty deathmatch maps. The maps range from dark age
castles to asteroid space stations orbiting the earth. In
team deathmatch mode the objective is the same as
Tournament deathmatch except that you play on teams. You
score points by fragging the opposing team's players.
Most servers that run this mode of play with disable
friendly fire so that you cannot harm your teamates with
your weapons. You can of course play this mode of play
online or locally with bots.
Last Man Standing
This is a variant of the tournament deathmatch. In this
mode of play all the players start out with all weapons,
locked and loaded. The goal is to be the last man (or
person) standing. If you can frag anyone else and be the
last man standing you win! You can play Last man standing
on any tournament deathmatch map. You'll also recall that
DM-Morpheus, the level inspired from the movie "The
Matrix" is Last Man Standing capable. As with all
modes of play, bots play this well.

Capture the Flag (CTF)
A favorite for many online game players. Capture the flag
puts two teams against each other in a race to capture
the other teams flag, returning it to your own base, and
back to your own flag. The challenge is team work. You
need people to go out and capture the flag, and have
people defending your own flag. The bots thrive at CTF
and are a great tool learning tool for new players. One
special feature Unreal Tournament sports is the
translocator. With this item you can teleport to where
you fire the beacon. (Press alt fire) It can also be used
as a weapon. If you hit someone with the beacon, then
press alt-fire, they get "telefragged." This
sounds like an amazing tool eh? There is a drawback
however. if you use the translocator while you're
carrying the flag, you lose the flag. Levels range from
fortresses orbiting around the earth with low gravity, to
ancient castles and futuristic military complexes. Unreal
Tournament is expected to ship with a good dozen capture
the flag levels.
Domination
The object of this game is to take control of certain
points on the map, and keep control of them. The team
that has the most points at the end of the game wins. The
scoring system is pretty simple. The more control points
you dominate, the more points you get. If you control
three control points at the same time, your score
increases three times as fast as controlling one. If you
control no points, then your score stays the same. This
mode of play will appeal to many TeamFortress players.
Especially people who enjoy the canalzone level. There
are a good half-dozen domination maps + that ship with
Unreal Tournament. They range from a anciet middle
eastern temple to high tech complexes and urban
cityscapes. Bots are very capable of playing domination
and play better than most humans ever will or could.
Assault
Two teams, one on defense and the other on offense. The
Defense has to hold an objective for a set amount of
time, and the offence has to try to take control of the
objective before the set amount of time has elapsed.
Whoever wins an extra point, and the match is restarted
with both teams switching positions (who ever was the
defender, is now on offence, and vise versa). There's a
twist to this gameplay mode. If your team accomplishes an
objective in less time that is needed, the opposing team
needs to accomplish the same task in less time or lose
they the match. The levels for this mode of play are
outstanding. They range from the back of a speeding
bullet train to a World War II era Normandy beach-head
thats akin to the the movie Guns of the Navarrone.
There's a good six or so maps for assault as of now. As
usual, bots play this well.
Here's some "exclusive" cough-cough
screenshots of Assault in action.
The first two screenshots are the opening sequence for
the assault bullet train level. The helicopter drops off
your team then you proceed to the front of the train to
accomplish your objective. The third pic is of the Assault-Overlord
level. You've just landed on the beach and you're about
to be in a world 'o hurt.
